MT-IBIS Query System Contents and Usage

The MT-IBIS Query System provides a simple-to-use interface that allows a user to step through data selection options and perform custom queries of Montana's public health databases.

What is a custom query?

A custom query is an interface (Web pages) where the user can select a dataset (e.g., birth) and a measure (e.g., count) and then limit or aggregate the results by year, age group, Health Region, etc. to obtain data in a table and a graph. Available datasets are listed below as well as on the left navigation buttons in this section. Measures can include rates, counts, survey topics, top 10 lists, averages, etc. The available selections for filtering the data and defining cross-tabulations depends on what is available in the data set.

Basic steps to follow:

  1. Select the dataset using the left navigation buttons.
  2. Select a measure. Click on one of the green bars to see a list of measures.
  3. Build your query. On the QueryBuilder page, click on a green bar to expand the step. Make selections to build your query.
  4. Submit query. After you have finished making selections click on the "Submit" button to run your query.
  5. View and/or modify your results. From the results page you can select/change a chart, export to Excel, use the "Modify Query/Return to QueryBuilder" to modify your query selections or start a new query.

See the Resources and Help pages for more query system information.
